TENGA Fans Experiences Of Their First Time Masturbating

Our call for input on our Twitter was answered. Thank you to all TENGA fans for your help!

At TENGA we have done a lot of research on masturbation. The vast majority of information comes from our own yearly TENGA Global Self-Pleasure Report, which led to us writing articles on what the average masturbation session looks like both in the US and globally. We asked our followers on Twitter to let us know what their first time masturbating was like to see if there is a ‘normal’ experience that can be expected. The answer is, of course, no. There is no ‘normal/average’ first masturbation experience.

We've split our findings for the numbers and anecdotes - this post will cover the hard facts and you can read the stories here. Read on to find out more.

When Did Most People Start Masturbating?

Unlike when someone loses their virginity, the age someone starts masturbating is far less talked about with friends. Nonetheless, people can feel similar concern about whether they are a ‘late bloomer’ or not, once masturbation becomes something more commonly discussed. In the responses from our followers though, we can see that the age people started masturbating is fairly spread out. While 13 is the most common, it seems there is no stand-out age when people start masturbating.

How Do Most People Masturbate For The First Time?

Clearly, the majority of people who responded to our survey didn’t use anything to aid their first time masturbating and this is probably the most common case overall. Unless the person knows about how to make a handmade sex toy or has one at hand, the most available way to experiment with masturbating would be to just use your hands!

Where Do Most People Try Masturbating For the First Time?

Most people surveyed try masturbating for the first time in their bedroom or in the bathroom, showing a divide in the location of choice in the home. Whether it be in the bath, the shower, or your bed, all of these places offer the privacy needed to start experimenting. Surprisingly there are a couple of outliers who experimented in other locations such as outdoors and even at someone else’s house! It just goes to show that some people do start exploring themselves elsewhere.

Do Most People Enjoy Their First Time Masturbating?

Overwhelmingly most of our replies suggested that the majority of people enjoyed their first time masturbating. Those that didn’t, state that while the build-up was good, the climax was either too surprising to enjoy or too intense their first time. Other people simply didn’t remember whether it was good or not.

Do People Talk to Others About Their First Time Masturbating?

When asked, the majority of people surveyed have never talked with others about their first time masturbating. It seems that while it is relatively accepted that people might share stories of losing their virginity, masturbation stories still go unshared. This may go alongside current sex education not necessarily encouraging open discussion of sexual matters.

Do People Still Masturbate Regularly Now?

The vast majority of people who answered our survey still masturbate frequently, with 1-3 days being the most disclosed amount, closely followed by daily. With the health benefits of masturbation being so extensive, it’s good to see people looking after their sexual wellness. Of course, that should be expected when surveying fans of the TENGA Twitter account!

Is There Any ‘Normal/Average’ First Time Masturbating Experience?

As mentioned in our introduction, there really isn’t an average or ‘normal’ first-time-masturbating experience. People explore their bodies and their sexual needs at different times, in different places and in different ways. These are just the facts and numbers behind our survey, however. For more anecdotal information, be sure to check out our second blog on the subject here, where people share their experiences and individual thoughts on their first time masturbating.
